And this fuzzy orange thing is an eclectic clam. Usually one can find this clams in a dark spots under the rocks or in the caves. This clam is named for the bright white line on its mantle. This band of tissue is lined with cells that reflect light. The band is moved in an undulating manner, giving the appearance of a pulsating string of lights. It is thought that this display distracts fish and prevents them from nibbling the clam. It inhabits the tropical reefs of the Indian and western Pacific Oceans.
